UIL Solo & Ensemble

Students in the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band are required, and Concert Band members are strongly encouraged  to participate in the Region Solo and Ensemble Contest which is held each February.

Participation in State Solo and Ensemble is optional and the student and parent must make arrangements to participate in this competition.

Solos and Ensembles are rated according to difficulty, Class 1 (difficult), Class 2 (medium difficulty), Class 3 (easy).

All solos, regardless of class, may be performed with music. Students wishing to be eligible to attend State competition must perform a Class 1 solo from memory (unless otherwise noted on the music list below). State competition is held in Austin at the end of May.

Because the district level competition is usually in February, students should select and begin practicing their solos well before winter break.

For more information, please contact your band director.
