UIL Solo & Ensemble

All solos, regardless of class, may be performed with music. Students wishing to be eligible to attend State competition must perform a Class 1 solo from memory (unless otherwise noted on the music list below). State competition is held in Austin at the end of May.

Because the district level competition is usually in February, students should select and begin practicing their solos well before winter break.

Wind Symphony (top band): All Students are required to participate in Solo & Ensemble
Symphonic Band (second band): All students should perform either a Solo or an Ensemble
Concert Band (3rd band): Students may opt to do either solo or ensemble, but are not required to participate

Solo entry form for UIL Solo and Ensemble which will be Saturday, Feb 19, 2011 at AMCHS.
We are going to modify our entry procedure for students participating in this contest (percussion students will be advised by Mr. Seale):
Students must print, fill out and return the form to the HS directors by
Dec 17, 2010.
The band program will pay for the entry fee as we have in the past, but students must purchase their own solo original and number the measures of the original for the UIL  judge. Info on where to puchase solos and ensembles is on the attachment. If the student signs up for the contest and fails to participate, they must reimburse the band for the entry fee.
Students must look up the UIL ID number for their solo on the UIL website - this info is also on the attachment. If the solo is not on the UIL website, it cannot be entered.
Also, students must have a piano accompanist for their solo, unless the solo is specifically is marked as unaccompanied. We will have info on pianists, but students must make their own arrangements to practice with and pay for the services of the accompanist.
We will issue a separate form for ensembles participating in this contest.
This is information is being distributed earlier than usual, but we would like for all students and their parents to understand these procedures so we can provide a better contest for our students.
Thanks,
Clif Jones
