Required Instrument List Grades 6-12

This list is sorted by grade level.  If you wish to purchase all of the equipment at once, feel free to do so.  I have separated it into specific grade level requirements to spread out the cost over several years rather than all at once.  Also, sticks and mallets will wear out over time with constant use, so there will come a time that you will need to replace your mallets.

HIGH SCHOOL:

Purchase of marching sticks and mallets will be in addition to your mallet/stick collection.  This list covers most of your marching band needs.  It would be wise to purchase a double sided marching practice pad.  Front ensemble members are not required to purchase their own mallets but it is highly recommended.  Mr. Seale will let you know which type of mallet you will need on a one on one basis.

Remember:  It is very important to either get the exact mallets listed or an equivalent model from another company.  It’s the type of hardness with the mallet that is most important.  There are many companies that make great percussion mallets.  This is our instrument; it is not acceptable to borrow from other players in the percussion section.  If you do not have the correct sticks then it is the same as not having your instrument for that day.  These supplies will get you throughout high school.  There may be an occasional time that you will need to buy a special stick or mallet for a solo or ensemble.  .

Snare Drum:  Why isn’t there a snare drum on this list?  It has been my experience that most beginner level snare drums are not worth the cost when it comes to durability or dependability.  Every one of our campuses has at least one or two good quality snare drums that are available to practice on during school hours.  If you are interested in purchasing a snare drum or any other percussion instrument for any reason please contact me and I will help you in that decision..

Please ask Mr. Seale (jseale@csisd.org) if you have any questions
